The manuscript Melk, Stiftsbibliothek, 109 (olim 1056) is a gradual of about the year 1300, originally written for the Benedictine monastery of St. Emmeram in Regensburg, brought to Melk at an unknown point in time, and there partly revised by means of erasures and new entries and additions to conform to the chant practice of Melk after the reforms of the fifteenth century. It includes not only the full cycle of proper of mass chants through the year but also sequences and ordinary of mass chants. The sequences were not revised in Melk. The alter­ations entailed not only the replacement of one chant by another but also alterations to the melodies, visible on more than half the pages of the manuscript. These substitute 'Italian' (ultimately Roman-Franciscan) readings for the older Regensburg versions. They are a valuable witness to the way in which the Melk reform affected the very fabric of the melodies. A-M 109, fol. 113v. Messoffizium für den Melker Patron Choloman (13.10.). Man passte das Festformular für den Regensburger Märtyrerbischof und Heiligen Emmeram (22.9.) an (Melodie- und Repertoirekorrekturen, Coloman war ebenfalls Märtyrer, aber kein Bischof). Die aufwendig illuminierte Initiale 'L', der Beginn des Introitus 'Laetabitur justus', zeigt Bischof Emmeram mit der Märtyrerpalme und einem Drachen.

Die Abbildungen der Handschrift wurden mit Erlaubnis von P. Dr. Gottfried Glaßner, Bibliothekar von Stift Melk, veröffentlicht. Für Reproduktionen oder eine Veröffentlichung von Abbildungen aus Cod. 109 durch Dritte muss in Stift Melk um Erlaubnis nachgefragt werden.
